Thursday, August 27, 2026 -Nepal is facing a rapidly escalating rescue crisis after devastating flash floods along the Nepal-China border killed at least 392 people, with hundreds still unaccounted for.
Authorities say 290 Indian nationals remain uncontactable as rescue teams race to reach isolated communities and search through areas buried under mud and debris. The disaster has also left 1,468 people missing across Nepal and Tibet, according to the latest reports.
The floods struck with extraordinary force after what authorities believe was an ice-rock avalanche linked to a glacial collapse sent huge volumes of water, rocks and debris through mountain valleys.
Roads, bridges, homes and key infrastructure have been destroyed, making access increasingly difficult for emergency teams. Helicopters and other rescue resources are being deployed, while India is coordinating with Nepali and Chinese authorities to locate its citizens and bring survivors to safety.
The emergency remains far from over. Authorities are warning of a possible fresh flood threat from a growing barrier lake, raising fears that already devastated areas could face another surge.
With 290 Indians still uncontactable and thousands affected across the region, rescuers are working against time to find survivors while governments focus on evacuation, medical assistance and urgent relief.
