Sunday, August 23, 2026 - Michael Sheen is joining the expanding cast of Apple TV’s Emmy-nominated sci-fi comedy Murderbot for its second season.
The Welsh actor is among 25 new recurring and guest stars announced for the series, joining major names including Steve Buscemi, Wanda Sykes, Patton Oswalt, Blair Underwood, Topher Grace and Nicholas Braun. Sheen’s role is being kept under wraps, adding another layer of anticipation as production details remain closely guarded.
The new season will reunite Sheen with returning star Alexander Skarsgård, who plays the self-aware security cyborg at the center of the story. Murderbot follows a robot that secretly hacks its own programming and gains free will, only to discover that protecting humans is far more complicated—and irritating—than expected.
The first season was well received, and Apple’s decision to dramatically expand the cast signals its confidence in the series as it heads into its next chapter.
For fans, Sheen’s arrival could make an already ambitious second season one of Apple TV’s most closely watched sci-fi comedies. With an unusually large lineup of established actors now attached, expectations are rising ahead of the show’s return.
Apple has not yet announced a release date or revealed Sheen’s character, leaving viewers with one major question: who exactly will the acclaimed actor play in the unpredictable world of Murderbot?
