Friday, August 14, 2026 -Fear is tightening its grip on Taybeh, the last entirely Christian town in the occupied West Bank, as residents face repeated attacks, property damage and pressure on their land.
Israeli settlers have been accused of setting fires, damaging farmland and threatening residents, while local families say they increasingly fear for their safety. More than 15 families have reportedly left Taybeh over the past three years, with young people also leaving in search of safer and more stable lives.
The situation has escalated sharply in recent months. On August 9, the Israeli military declared Taybeh a closed military zone for non-residents, saying the measure was intended to prevent further attacks by Israeli settlers and protect the town's residents.
The move followed a series of violent incidents, including fires and attacks around homes and agricultural areas. Residents and church leaders, however, say stronger and sustained protection is needed to stop the violence from driving more families away.
For Taybeh's small Christian community, the stakes are now immediate: continued violence and emigration could threaten the town's ability to remain a living Christian community in the West Bank.
Church leaders are calling for international attention and protection, while residents are urging authorities to prevent attacks and safeguard their homes and farmland. The warning is urgent—without meaningful security and accountability, more families could decide that staying is simply too dangerous.
