Monday, August 10, 2026 - Bangladesh’s measles crisis is intensifying, with six more children dying from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours to 8 a.m. Sunday, pushing the combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 873 this year.
Health authorities also recorded 988 new suspected cases and 75 newly confirmed infections during the same period, highlighting the speed at which the outbreak continues to spread.
The latest figures bring the nationwide total of suspected cases to 136,320, while laboratory-confirmed cases have reached 17,115.
Of the 873 reported deaths, 775 are suspected measles deaths and 98 have been laboratory-confirmed. The continuing rise in infections is putting additional pressure on health facilities and increasing the urgency of protecting vulnerable children.
The response is already being scaled up, but the latest deaths underline the need for faster action. Bangladesh’s Health Ministry says more than 18.48 million children have been vaccinated since April 5 as authorities work to contain the outbreak.
With new infections still being reported daily, sustained vaccination, rapid detection and timely medical care remain critical to preventing further loss of life.
