Tuesday, August 11, 2026 - Brad Pitt has opened up about one of the darkest periods of his life, revealing that intense family problems once left him feeling as though he could understand why someone might consider suicide.
The 62-year-old actor made the candid admission in a new Esquire interview, explaining that he experienced a brief period when the emotional pain became so overwhelming that he could not see a way out. Pitt stressed that he did not intend to act on the thoughts, saying his survival instinct ultimately took over.
When asked what had triggered the crisis, Pitt gave a brief answer: “Family stuff.” He declined to provide further details, but his comments come amid years of highly publicised difficulties involving his divorce from Angelina Jolie and strained relationships within their family.
Pitt described himself as naturally optimistic, but acknowledged that even his positive outlook could not completely shield him from periods of profound emotional pain.
Pitt also revealed that he returned to drinking after maintaining seven years of sobriety, although he said he now drinks in a much more restrained way and has learned that alcohol is not good for him in large quantities.
His latest revelations offer a rare glimpse into the personal struggles behind one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, while also showing the importance he places on survival, close relationships and moving forward.
For Pitt, the focus now appears to be on accepting difficult emotions rather than hiding them as he continues navigating major changes in his personal life.
