Friday, August 14, 2026 -Ahmed Al Ahmed, the man hailed as a hero after disarming one of the gunmen during the deadly Bondi Beach attack, has had assault-related charges against him withdrawn.
The 44-year-old had been accused of domestic-violence common assault and stalking or intimidation following an alleged family incident in Bankstown. Al Ahmed denied the allegations and maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.
The charges were formally withdrawn after Al Ahmed had pleaded not guilty in June. He had faced allegations that he assaulted and intimidated his father, claims he strongly rejected.
The development brings an end to the immediate criminal proceedings against him over the incident, although a 12-month apprehended violence order remains in place.
Al Ahmed became an international symbol of courage after footage showed him wrestling a rifle from one of the Bondi attackers during the December 2025 terror attack, in which 15 people were killed. He was shot several times during the confrontation and has continued recovering from his injuries.
The withdrawal of the charges now allows him to focus on his recovery and rebuilding his life after an event that transformed him from an ordinary Sydney resident into one of Australia's most recognised heroes.
