Thursday, July 16, 2026- A shocking stabbing at a Utah shopping mall has raised fresh concerns about religiously motivated violence after an Indian national was allegedly attacked more than 15 times in what authorities are investigating as a suspected hate crime.
The victim, identified as a Muslim mall worker, was reportedly targeted after the attacker questioned him about his religion before the assault.
The suspect, 48-year-old Peter Michael Larsen, was arrested after bystanders intervened and stopped the attack at Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City.
Court records cited by authorities say the suspect admitted targeting the victim because of his religious identity, intensifying calls for stronger action against hate-driven violence and extremist beliefs.
The incident has sparked international concern, with India’s diplomatic representatives offering assistance while communities demand accountability and protection for minority groups.
As investigations continue, the attack serves as an urgent reminder that rising hate speech and religious intolerance can quickly turn into devastating acts of violence.
