Blue singer LEE RYAN to be sentenced for racially aggravated assault on air steward after losing appeal

Wednesday, July 15, 2026- Blue singer Lee Ryan is set to return to court for sentencing after losing his final legal challenge against his conviction for racially aggravated assault involving a British Airways cabin crew member.

High Court judges dismissed his appeal, allowing the case to proceed to sentencing and bringing the long-running legal battle closer to its conclusion.

The conviction stems from an incident aboard a British Airways flight in 2022, where prosecutors said Ryan, while intoxicated, assaulted and made racially offensive remarks to a Black flight attendant.

Although Ryan denied acting with racist intent, the courts found the evidence against him compelling, with judges emphasizing the consistency and credibility of the victim's testimony over Ryan's changing accounts.

The upcoming sentencing will determine the consequences Ryan faces and marks the final stage of a case that has attracted significant public attention.

The ruling also reinforces the message that abusive and racially aggravated behavior toward airline staff is treated as a serious criminal offence, with courts prepared to uphold convictions when supported by credible evidence.
