Sexual violence increasingly used as 'weapon of war' in Sudan, UN says

Tuesday, June 23, 2026- The United Nations has issued a stark warning that sexual violence is being used with increasing frequency as a weapon of war in Sudan, as the country's humanitarian crisis continues to deepen.

According to UN officials, women, girls, and other vulnerable groups are facing heightened risks in conflict-affected areas, with reports indicating a disturbing rise in cases linked to ongoing violence and displacement.

Humanitarian organizations are calling for urgent international action to protect civilians and expand support services for survivors.

Access to medical care, psychological assistance, and safe shelter remains limited in many regions, making it difficult for victims to receive the help they need. Aid agencies warn that without stronger intervention, the situation could worsen as conflict and instability continue to affect communities across the country.

The latest findings have intensified calls for accountability and stronger measures to prevent human rights abuses. International bodies are urging all parties involved in the conflict to comply with humanitarian law and ensure the protection of civilians.

As global attention focuses on Sudan, relief organizations stress that immediate action is essential to address the growing crisis and support those most affected by the violence.
