Qatar denies Washington Post report on Iran energy ties

Saturday, June 13, 2026- Qatar has strongly rejected a report published by The Washington Post that alleged coordination between Doha and Tehran on energy production decisions aimed at influencing developments in the ongoing US-Iran conflict.

In a statement issued by Qatar’s International Media Office, officials described the claims as “false” and “completely baseless,” insisting that no operational energy decisions were ever made in coordination with Iran or to serve Iranian interests.

The denial comes after reports suggested Qatar engaged in behind-the-scenes discussions with Iran concerning energy infrastructure and regional security amid heightened tensions across the Gulf.

Qatari authorities maintained that all decisions related to energy production and exports were driven solely by national interests, safety considerations, and market realities.

Officials also accused unnamed actors of attempting to undermine Qatar’s diplomatic role and damage its strategic relationship with the United States through what they called misleading narratives.

The controversy highlights the growing sensitivity surrounding energy security in the Gulf, where disruptions to oil and gas infrastructure have had significant global economic consequences.

As efforts continue to secure a broader US-Iran agreement and stabilize regional markets, Qatar is seeking to reinforce its position as a mediator while distancing itself from claims that it is coordinating energy policy with Tehran.

With global markets closely monitoring every development, transparency and trust remain critical factors in maintaining confidence across the region’s energy sector.
