Thursday, May 7, 2026- Russia has issued a sharp warning to Ukraine, threatening strikes on what it calls “decision-making centers” in Kyiv if any disruption occurs during its upcoming Victory Day commemorations.
The statement, delivered through the Russian Foreign Ministry, urged foreign embassies and international organizations to evacuate personnel from Kyiv immediately, citing the “inevitability” of retaliatory attacks if Ukraine targets Moscow during the May 9 events.
The warning comes as tensions intensify ahead of Victory Day, a major national event in Russia marking World War II victory, with Moscow increasingly concerned about Ukrainian long-range drone strikes.
Russian officials have also linked the threats to what they describe as Ukrainian “provocations,” while Ukraine has dismissed Russia’s ceasefire proposals as symbolic and inconsistent with ongoing attacks across the front lines.
At the same time, Moscow has scaled back parts of its Victory Day parade and tightened security in the capital amid fears of strikes, highlighting the pressure the war is placing on Russia’s domestic optics.
Analysts say the rhetoric around Kyiv reflects both deterrence and internal signaling, as the Kremlin tries to project strength while preparing for possible escalation around one of its most politically sensitive national events.
