Iranian supreme leader says only place Americans belong in the Gulf is 'at the bottom of its waters'

Sunday, May 3, 2026-Iran’s Supreme Leader has issued sharply escalated rhetoric toward the United States, stating that American forces “belong at the bottom of the Gulf,” a comment that comes amid rising tensions tied to the ongoing Iran–U.S. conflict in the region.

The statement, attributed to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reflects Tehran’s increasingly confrontational stance as military and political pressure builds across the Persian Gulf.

It follows months of heightened instability involving naval incidents, missile exchanges, and U.S. military deployments intended to secure shipping routes and deter further escalation. The language marks one of the most aggressive public warnings yet, reinforcing how quickly diplomatic channels between the two countries have deteriorated.

The remarks also come at a time when both sides are already locked in a broader strategic confrontation that has drawn in regional actors and disrupted global energy markets.

With maritime security in the Gulf now a central flashpoint, analysts say such statements risk further inflaming an already volatile situation, raising concerns about miscalculation at sea and the potential for wider escalation beyond the current conflict zone.
