Tuesday, May 5, 2026 - Former New York Mayor and former lawyer to Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani is currently in critical but stable condition at a hospital, according to a statement released by his spokesperson, Ted Goodman, on Sunday.
While the specific reason for his hospitalization was not
disclosed, Goodman described the 81-year-old as a "fighter" who is
facing this challenge with "unwavering strength." Recent broadcasts
of his show, "America’s Mayor Live," showed Giuliani appearing
"under the weather" and coughing, noting on Friday that his voice was
not at its usual strength.
The news has prompted reactions from across the political
spectrum.
US President Donald Trump praised Giuliani on Truth Social
as a "True Warrior" and the "Best Mayor in the History of New
York City," while former New York Mayor Eric Adams issued a statement
through a spokesperson wishing him a full recovery, noting that the
"moment rises above politics."
Giuliani, famously known as "America’s Mayor" for
his leadership following the September 11 attacks, has been embroiled in
significant legal and financial difficulties in recent years.
These include a $148 million defamation judgment, disbarment
in New York, and ongoing state criminal charges in Arizona related to the 2020
election. This health crisis follows a previous hospitalization in August 2026
after a car accident in New Hampshire, as well as a four-day hospital stay for
coronavirus in 2020.
