Monday, May 4, 2026-Austrian authorities have arrested a 39-year-old suspect following the discovery of rat poison in baby food jars sold in supermarkets across parts of Central Europe.
The investigation began after a customer reported a suspicious jar in a store in Eisenstadt, prompting police to test additional products and launch a wider public safety inquiry. Officials say the case is being treated as a serious act of suspected intentional public endangerment.
The contaminated products were identified in jars of baby food distributed under the HiPP brand, leading to precautionary recalls in Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
