As new Iran deal faces sharp criticism, TRUMP seeks to widen Abraham Accords

Wednesday, May 27, 2026-The latest push from the U.S. administration to reshape Middle East diplomacy is unfolding as a controversial Iran deal faces growing political backlash in Washington and abroad.

Donald Trump is simultaneously advancing a strategy to expand the Abraham Accords, urging more countries to normalize relations with Israel even as negotiations with Iran remain fragile and heavily criticized by lawmakers. Reports indicate that the proposal is being positioned as part of a broader regional settlement aimed at stabilizing conflict zones and reopening key trade and energy routes.

The renewed diplomatic drive comes amid heightened tensions surrounding ongoing negotiations with Iran, where critics argue that key details remain unresolved and politically divisive.

Several U.S. lawmakers have warned that concessions in any Iran agreement could weaken long-term regional security, while supporters of the administration’s approach say broader normalization through the Abraham Accords could help isolate extremist groups and strengthen economic cooperation across the Middle East. The debate has intensified as diplomatic talks continue behind closed doors, with no final agreement announced.

At the same time, Trump has been actively urging additional countries in the region to join or expand participation in the Abraham Accords framework, including key Gulf and Muslim-majority states.

Analysts say this dual-track strategy—pursuing both a contentious Iran agreement and expanded normalization deals—reflects a high-risk, high-reward attempt to reshape regional alliances in real time. With negotiations still fluid and political opposition mounting, the coming weeks are expected to be decisive for whether the strategy produces a breakthrough or deepens existing geopolitical divisions.
