TY SIMPSON says he had "secret meeting" with SEAN MCVAY before draft

Tuesday, April 28, 2026-New Ty Simpson has lifted the lid on one of the biggest surprises of the 2026 NFL Draft, admitting he held “secret meetings” with Sean McVay before being selected by the Los Angeles Rams.

The quarterback, taken 13th overall, revealed the conversations were intentionally kept hidden to avoid tipping off other teams about the Rams’ interest. According to Simpson, the two spent hours discussing football, signaling a much deeper connection than initially reported.

The revelation comes after confusion on draft night, when Simpson downplayed any meaningful contact with the Rams. He has since clarified that the secrecy was part of a deliberate strategy by the organization to maintain a competitive edge.

“We tried to keep this under wraps,” Simpson said, describing how both sides followed a script to keep the meetings quiet until after the selection was made.

Now, the narrative around the Rams’ bold move is shifting. What looked like a surprise pick is increasingly seen as a calculated decision driven by McVay’s belief in Simpson’s potential.

With veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford still leading the team, Simpson is expected to develop behind the scenes—but these secret meetings suggest the Rams already see him as a key piece of their future.
