TRUMP fires board that oversees Presidio in San Francisco

Tuesday, April 14, 2026-President Donald Trump has removed all six members of the board that oversees the Presidio Trust, the federal body responsible for managing the historic 1,500-acre park in San Francisco.

The board members, all previously appointed under former President Joe Biden, were dismissed as part of a broader effort by the administration to reshape or reduce federal agencies it considers inefficient.

The Presidio Trust manages one of the most valuable public spaces in the United States, converting the former military base into a self-sustaining park with residential areas, businesses, and cultural sites.

Officials familiar with the decision say the firings were carried out without immediate replacement appointments, creating temporary uncertainty over governance, even though day-to-day operations are expected to continue normally under existing staff.

The move has sparked political backlash in California, with local leaders calling the decision disruptive and politically motivated. The Presidio remains a major public landmark and financial success story, generating its own revenue without regular federal funding. Despite the leadership shake-up, park officials say services will continue uninterrupted as the federal government prepares to appoint a new board.
