TRUMP convenes Iran situation room meeting amid renewed Hormuz crisis

Monday, April 20, 2026-President Donald Trump has convened a high-level Situation Room meeting at the White House to address the escalating crisis surrounding Iran and renewed instability in the Strait of Hormuz, according to U.S. officials.

The urgent gathering brought together senior national security and economic aides as tensions with Tehran continue to intensify alongside disruptions in one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes.

Officials say the meeting focused on the deteriorating security situation, including reports of Iranian attacks on vessels and the reimposition of restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.

The discussions also centered on the fragile state of negotiations with Iran, which remain uncertain as deadlines for a ceasefire and diplomatic breakthrough approach without clear progress. Senior figures including top defense, intelligence, and diplomatic officials participated in the closed-door session.

The development underscores how rapidly the crisis is evolving, with Washington weighing both military posture and diplomatic options. With global oil flows already under pressure and maritime traffic disrupted, the White House is treating the situation as urgent, warning that any further escalation could have immediate geopolitical and economic consequences far beyond the region.
