Oklahoma principal shot disarming ex-student with semi-automatic guns

Thursday, April 16, 2026-An Oklahoma high school principal is being hailed as a hero after being shot while confronting and disarming a former student who entered campus armed with semi-automatic weapons.

The incident unfolded at Pauls Valley High School when 20-year-old Victor Lee Hawkins allegedly walked into the building, pointed a gun at students, and attempted to open fire. In a split-second response, Principal Kirk Moore charged at the attacker, tackling him despite being shot in the leg during the struggle.

Authorities say the suspect had brought two semi-automatic pistols and intended to carry out a mass shooting. One of the weapons reportedly malfunctioned as he tried to fire at students, creating a critical moment that allowed Moore to intervene.

With the help of another staff member, the principal managed to subdue and disarm the attacker before police arrived. Remarkably, no students were injured, a fact officials directly attribute to the swift and decisive actions taken inside the school.

The suspect is now in custody facing multiple serious charges, including intent to kill, while Moore is recovering and expected to return to work. Law enforcement and community leaders have praised the principal’s bravery, calling his actions life-saving in what could have turned into a mass casualty event.

The incident has once again placed school safety and preparedness under urgent national focus, as educators are increasingly forced into frontline roles during moments of crisis.
