Residents of two villages in Dagestan have been urged to leave their homes due to risk of dam breaking

Sunday, April 12, 2026-Authorities in the Russian republic of Dagestan have ordered urgent evacuations after warnings that a local dam could fail due to structural instability and rising water pressure.

Residents in two nearby villages have been instructed to leave their homes immediately as emergency teams monitor the situation and work to prevent a potential disaster.

Officials said the decision was made after engineers detected critical weaknesses in the dam following heavy rainfall and increased water flow in the region.

Emergency services have been deployed to the area to assist with evacuations, secure infrastructure, and assess the risk of flooding downstream. Temporary shelters have been set up to accommodate displaced families.

The alert has raised concerns over the safety of aging water infrastructure in remote parts of the North Caucasus, where extreme weather conditions can quickly overwhelm existing systems.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and follow evacuation orders as precautionary measures continue, warning that the situation remains highly unstable.
