Iran’s foreign minister leaves Pakistan, heads to Russia for more talks

Monday, April 27, 2026-Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has departed Pakistan and is now heading to Russia for further diplomatic discussions, continuing a fast-moving regional tour aimed at advancing ceasefire-related negotiations amid stalled U.S.–Iran diplomacy.

According to Iran’s foreign ministry, Araghchi will hold meetings with senior officials in Moscow, with expectations of a possible encounter with President Vladimir Putin as Tehran seeks to build support from key regional powers.

The visit follows a series of stops in Pakistan and Oman, where Iran has been engaging intermediaries to relay positions on ongoing conflict issues and possible frameworks for de-escalation.

The trip comes at a moment when indirect peace efforts involving the United States have faltered, with planned diplomatic exchanges disrupted and talks shifting toward regional channels instead. Pakistan has played a mediating role, while Russia is now being positioned as another key external actor in the evolving diplomatic track.

Despite continued movement between capitals, there is still no indication that direct Iran–U.S. negotiations are imminent, underscoring how fragmented and uncertain the wider diplomatic process remains.
