Iran’s FM ABBAS ARAGHCHI meets with Pakistan officials but rules out direct talks with US

Saturday, April 25, 2026- Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Islamabad for high-stakes diplomatic engagements with Pakistani leaders, as efforts intensify to manage escalating regional tensions.

The visit comes at a critical moment, with Pakistan positioning itself as a key mediator in ongoing attempts to revive dialogue between Tehran and Washington. Araghchi’s meetings are focused on regional stability, ceasefire coordination, and conveying Iran’s stance amid continued military and economic pressure.

Despite parallel movements by U.S. envoys heading to Pakistan for potential negotiations, Tehran has made its position unmistakably clear: there will be no direct talks with American officials during this visit.

Iranian authorities emphasized that any communication with Washington will be handled indirectly through Pakistani intermediaries, reinforcing a cautious and controlled diplomatic approach.

The development highlights a fragile diplomatic moment, where engagement continues but trust remains limited. While Washington pushes for progress on key issues—including nuclear constraints and regional security—Iran has rejected what it calls “maximalist demands,” signaling that any breakthrough will depend on mediated compromise rather than face-to-face negotiation.
