IDF says close to capturing Hezbollah’s historic Bint Jbeil stronghold

Tuesday, April 14, 2026-The Israeli military says it is nearing full control of the southern Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil, a key Hezbollah stronghold with deep symbolic importance for the group.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), troops have nearly completed the operation after days of intense urban combat, with officials claiming more than 100 Hezbollah fighters were killed in the area as they tightened their encirclement of the town.

The operation is part of a broader Israeli push to secure southern Lebanon and establish what it describes as a security buffer zone along the border. Fighting has involved close-quarters clashes, drone strikes, and artillery fire, while Hezbollah has continued launching rockets and drones toward northern Israel in response.

Israeli forces say they have been targeting weapons sites and infrastructure inside Bint Jbeil as they advance deeper into the town’s center.

Bint Jbeil is considered one of Hezbollah’s most important symbolic locations, often associated with past confrontations between the group and Israel. Its near-capture marks a significant escalation in the current conflict and underscores the intensity of the fighting along the Israel–Lebanon frontier. As the battle continues, both sides remain engaged in heavy exchanges, with the situation still fluid on the ground.
