Hungary’s Tisza party widens parliamentary majority as final votes are counted

Monday, April 20, 2026-Hungary’s political landscape has shifted dramatically after the final vote count confirmed a sweeping victory for the Tisza party, led by Péter Magyar. The party widened its parliamentary majority to 141 seats out of 199, strengthening an already decisive win and securing a powerful two-thirds supermajority.

The expanded margin gives Tisza unprecedented control, allowing it to pass major legislation and even amend the constitution without support from opposition parties.

The result marked the end of Viktor Orbán’s 16-year rule, with his Fidesz party reduced to a fraction of its former dominance.

With this strengthened mandate, Magyar is expected to move quickly on campaign promises, including anti-corruption reforms, economic recovery efforts, and resetting relations with the European Union.

The scale of the victory not only consolidates his power but also raises expectations for rapid change, as Hungary enters a new political era shaped by one of the most decisive election outcomes in its modern history.
