Former Army employee charged with leaking classified info to journalist

Friday, April 10, 2026-A former U.S. Army employee has been charged with illegally leaking classified information to a journalist, in a case that has raised fresh concerns about insider threats and the protection of sensitive government data.

Prosecutors allege the individual accessed and transmitted restricted materials without authorization while working in a position that granted access to secure systems.

According to court filings, the leaked information included classified defense-related material that was later shared with a member of the press. Authorities say the disclosures were not accidental but involved deliberate actions over a period of time, prompting a federal investigation that ultimately led to the charges.

The case adds to a growing list of prosecutions involving unauthorized leaks from government and military institutions. Officials emphasize that safeguarding classified information remains a top priority, warning that breaches of this nature can compromise national security and undermine operational integrity.
