Thursday, April 16, 2026-The White House says Chinese President Xi Jinping has assured President Donald Trump that China is not supplying weapons to Iran amid the ongoing regional conflict.
According to White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, Xi gave direct assurances during recent communications with Trump that Beijing is not providing any military support to Tehran.
The statement comes as Washington has increased scrutiny of China’s economic and strategic ties with Iran, particularly around oil trade and broader regional influence.
U.S. officials also highlighted China’s major role as a buyer of Iranian oil and warned that continued trade links could face sanctions pressure.
The comments add another layer to the already tense U.S.–China relations, as both powers navigate the wider fallout from the Iran conflict and ongoing diplomatic negotiations across the region.
