14-year-old student kills 9 in Turkey’s second school shooting in two days

Thursday, April 16, 2026-A 14-year-old student has killed nine people in Turkey’s second school shooting in just two days, in a shocking attack that has left the country reeling and triggered urgent security responses nationwide.

The shooting took place at a middle school in the Kahramanmaraş region, where officials say the attacker entered two classrooms and opened fire, killing eight students and one teacher before being stopped.

Authorities report that several others were also injured, some critically, as panic spread through the school and students attempted to flee. The gunman was later killed during the incident, with investigators examining how he accessed multiple firearms reportedly linked to his father.

Officials say the motive behind the attack remains unclear, but early findings suggest it was an isolated act rather than a coordinated assault. The incident came just a day after another school shooting in a nearby province, raising alarm over the rare but emerging pattern of school violence in the country.

Security forces have since launched wider investigations, while schools across the region are reviewing safety protocols as pressure mounts for immediate preventive measures.
