Washtenaw County reports fourth suspected measles case, lists exposure locations

Monday, March 23, 2026-Health officials in Washtenaw County are raising alarms after identifying a fourth suspected measles case, intensifying concerns about a growing local outbreak.

The cases are believed to be linked, with authorities confirming that measles—one of the most contagious viruses—has already spread within the community. While no new exposure sites have been added with the latest suspected case, officials stress that the situation remains fluid and requires immediate public attention.

The outbreak traces back to earlier cases tied to multiple public locations across Ypsilanti and nearby areas.

Residents may have been exposed at several high-traffic sites, including a bar, mobile stores, a pharmacy, and urgent care clinics visited over several days in early March. Health officials warn that the virus can linger in the air for up to two hours, meaning even brief contact in these locations could pose a risk—especially for unvaccinated individuals.

Authorities are urging anyone who visited the listed locations or believes they were exposed to act immediately—monitor symptoms, avoid public spaces if unwell, and contact healthcare providers before seeking in-person care.

With symptoms appearing up to 21 days after exposure, the window for detection remains wide. Officials emphasize that vaccination remains the strongest defense, as the county works to contain further spread and prevent the situation from escalating into a broader public health crisis.
