TRUMP eyes "Hormuz Coalition," seizure of Iran's Kharg Island oil hub

Wednesday, March 18, 2026- Donald Trump is reportedly considering a major escalation in the Iran conflict, including forming a so-called “Hormuz Coalition” and potentially seizing Kharg Island — a move that could dramatically reshape the war and global energy markets.

The proposed coalition would involve multiple countries sending naval forces to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments.

Kharg Island has become a central strategic target because it handles the vast majority of Iran’s oil exports, making it a key economic lifeline for Tehran.

U.S. strikes have already hit military infrastructure on the island, and officials are now weighing whether taking control of it could cripple Iran’s ability to finance the war.

Analysts warn that such a move would mark a significant escalation, likely requiring ground operations and risking broader retaliation across the region.

The potential plan underscores how rapidly the conflict is evolving beyond conventional strikes into economic and maritime warfare.

Securing the Strait of Hormuz could stabilize oil flows, but attempting to seize Kharg Island could trigger severe global consequences — including spikes in oil prices and wider regional conflict.

With coalition support still uncertain and tensions rising, the situation is shaping into one of the most high-stakes phases of the war so far.
