Middle East crisis live: TRUMP insists Iran wants a deal despite initial rejection; China sees ‘glimmer of hope’ for talks

Thursday, March 26, 2026- President Donald Trump has reaffirmed that the United States is pursuing diplomatic avenues to end the conflict with Iran even as military operations continue. Trump announced a temporary pause on planned strikes against Iranian energy facilities, claiming that negotiations are “progressing positively” and insisting that Iran is interested in reaching a deal to halt hostilities.

Despite public denials by Iranian officials about direct talks, Washington continues to push its peace proposal and signal a willingness to negotiate while maintaining pressure.

Tehran, however, has publicly rejected U.S. proposals, with Iranian authorities calling them unfair, and stressed that they are not currently holding direct negotiations with Washington.

The ongoing conflict — which has already included missile launches by Iran against Israel and U.S. forces — shows no signs of a definitive ceasefire, even as countries like Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt work as mediators to keep diplomatic channels open.

Meanwhile, China has weighed in with cautious optimism, describing a “glimmer of hope” for peace despite Iran’s vow to continue fighting. Chinese officials have urged all parties to pursue meaningful and sincere peace talks, emphasizing the urgent need to reduce hostilities in the region and prevent further escalation.

Beijing’s call for dialogue underscores global concern about the humanitarian and economic fallout from the conflict, which has already disrupted energy markets and heightened geopolitical tensions.
