Iran says 249 women, 216 children killed in US‑Israeli war

Tuesday, March 31, 2026-Iran has reported that at least 249 women and 216 children have been killed in US‑Israeli attacks against Iran since the war began last month, government officials said on Tuesday.

All of the reported fatalities were civilians, and the toll includes children under the age of five, according to a government spokesperson speaking on state media. Iranian authorities have stressed that the figures reflect the civilian impact of ongoing airstrikes and military operations.

The announcement comes amid continuing conflict in the region, with strikes and counter‑strikes between Iranian forces and US/Israeli military assets.

Tehran and its allies have been engaging in retaliatory operations following the start of hostilities, which have resulted in significant damage to infrastructure and widespread civilian harm. Officials in Iran have highlighted the rising civilian death toll as part of their broader narrative of the war’s impact on ordinary people.

Independent and human rights group estimates suggest the overall civilian casualties in Iran are significantly higher, with thousands reported killed since the conflict began, including many children and noncombatants. These broader assessments indicate deepening humanitarian concerns as violence continues across multiple fronts.
