Houston airport's only 2 TSA checkpoints pass 4-hour waits after ICE arrival

Wednesday, March 25, 2026- Passengers at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) are facing extreme delays, with security lines stretching to four hours or more after only two TSA checkpoints remained open.

The disruption comes amid a broader federal government shutdown that has strained staffing levels at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). With fewer agents available, airport operations have slowed significantly, creating long lines and widespread frustration among travelers.

Authorities confirmed that several checkpoints were closed, forcing passengers into just a couple of operating lines. As a result, wait times surged dramatically, with some travelers missing flights due to the delays.

The presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at the airport has drawn attention, as they were brought in during the disruption. However, reports indicate that their presence has not significantly reduced wait times, with the core issue tied to TSA staffing shortages.

Officials are urging travelers to arrive hours earlier than usual and to stay in close contact with airlines for updates. The situation remains fluid, with delays expected to continue until staffing and operational conditions improve.
