Sunday, March 29, 2026-The personal email account of FBI Director Kash Patel was breached by hackers linked to Iran, who published hundreds of emails, personal photographs and other documents online in a major cyber incident.
The group behind the attack calls itself the Handala Hack Team and claims responsibility for accessing Patel’s private Gmail account and posting the material on its website.
The leaked content reportedly includes more than 300 emails and images spanning years, showing personal moments such as vacations, leisure activities and private correspondence from before Patel became FBI director.
U.S. authorities confirmed that the breach targeted his personal, not official government, email account and said the material released appears to be historical in nature and did not include classified or government‑related information.
Cybersecurity experts and officials interpret the intrusion as part of a growing pattern of Iranian‑linked cyberattacks aimed at embarrassing and pressuring U.S. officials amid broader geopolitical tensions.
Although the FBI has taken steps to mitigate risks and secure the account, the incident highlights vulnerabilities in personal cybersecurity even for senior government leaders.
