Monday, March 2, 2026-Health officials in El Paso, Texas have confirmed that 17 measles cases have been reported in the region, with 13 of those occurring at the Camp East Montana Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility, authorities said Thursday.
The city’s public health department is tracking four additional cases within the community involving adults in their 20s and 30s with unknown vaccination statuses, while the federal facility cases are being reported through separate channels.
Camp East Montana, located on the grounds of Fort Bliss and housing detained immigrants, has been a focal point for public health coordination, with federal and local officials working together on testing, vaccination support, and quarantine measures. The facility’s confined environment and close quarters have raised concerns about rapid spread among residents and staff.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that spreads easily through coughing and sneezing, leading health officials to urge anyone who may have visited exposure sites and develops symptoms such as fever or rash to seek medical evaluation. Officials continue contact tracing and vaccination efforts to limit further transmission in the community.
