Monday, February 23, 2026- Public health officials in Montgomery County, Maryland say a confirmed case of measles may have exposed people in downtown Bethesda earlier this month. A Virginia resident who has been diagnosed with measles was present in an office building at 7200 Wisconsin Avenue on Feb. 10, and anyone who was in the building between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. that day could have been exposed to the highly contagious viral infection.
Measles spreads easily through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, and someone with measles can be contagious several days before a rash appears. County health leaders say they have not yet been contacted by any individuals reporting symptoms related to the exposure, but they urge anyone who was present at the specified location and time to monitor themselves closely for signs of the virus in the coming days.
Health experts emphasize that measles is preventable with a safe and effective vaccine. People who are unvaccinated or unsure of their immunization status should consult their healthcare provider for guidance, especially if symptoms like fever, cough, runny nose, or rash develop. Prompt medical advice and early detection help limit spread and protect vulnerable individuals, such as infants and those with weakened immune systems.
