Thursday, January 1, 2026 - A family has announced the burial arrangements for six loved ones who lost their lives in a devastating fire outbreak in Ghana.
The deceased, including a three-month old baby, were
occupants in the seven-bedroom self-contained apartment at Abyakwa Manhyia, in
the Ashanti Region, Ghana.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service received a
distress call around 12:53 am on December 22, 2025 and a team from the Nkawie
Fire Station rushed to the scene at 01:15 am to meet an advanced fire that was
spreading rapidly.
Information gathered indicated that firefighting operations
were later reinforced by personnel from the Twedie Fire Station.
Fortunately, the fire was brought under control at about
01:57 am and fully extinguished at 03:22am.
Sadly, despite the swift response, the seven-bedroom
residential building was completely destroyed
Firefighters retrieved six badly charred bodies burnt beyond
recognition.
A statement issued by the GNFS and signed by the Ashanti
Regional Public Relations Officer, GNFS, DO II Peter Addai said the bodies was
handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations.
It said the fire personnel managed to prevent the fire from
extending to other adjoining properties
The GNFS extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved
family and noted that investigations had commenced to determine the cause of
the fire.
"The public is advised to avoid heavy burglar-proof
doors and windows that trap occupants during emergencies," the service
advised.
The victims identified as Aku Daa, 36, Sarah Kusiwaa, 31,
Vivian Asantewaa, 19, Bawuah Osaa Mavis, 18, Queenster Adepa, 6, and Parin
Obrempong, 3 months, will be laid to rest at Mpasaso on Thursday, January 8,
2026.
