Tragedy: Six Ghanian family members killed in house fire

Thursday, January 1, 2026 - A family has announced the burial arrangements for six loved ones who lost their lives in a devastating fire outbreak in Ghana.

The deceased, including a three-month old baby, were occupants in the seven-bedroom self-contained apartment at Abyakwa Manhyia, in the Ashanti Region, Ghana.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service received a distress call around 12:53 am on December 22, 2025 and a team from the Nkawie Fire Station rushed to the scene at 01:15 am to meet an advanced fire that was spreading rapidly.

Information gathered indicated that firefighting operations were later reinforced by personnel from the Twedie Fire Station.

Fortunately, the fire was brought under control at about 01:57 am and fully extinguished at 03:22am.

Sadly, despite the swift response, the seven-bedroom residential building was completely destroyed

Firefighters retrieved six badly charred bodies burnt beyond recognition.

A statement issued by the GNFS and signed by the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer, GNFS, DO II Peter Addai said the bodies was handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations.

It said the fire personnel managed to prevent the fire from extending to other adjoining properties

The GNFS extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and noted that investigations had commenced to determine the cause of the fire.

"The public is advised to avoid heavy burglar-proof doors and windows that trap occupants during emergencies," the service advised.

The victims identified as Aku Daa, 36, Sarah Kusiwaa, 31, Vivian Asantewaa, 19, Bawuah Osaa Mavis, 18, Queenster Adepa, 6, and Parin Obrempong, 3 months, will be laid to rest at Mpasaso on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
