Senators call for ALEX PRETTI death investigation.

Tuesday, January 27, 2026-Senators from both parties are intensifying pressure for a full and transparent investigation into the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37‑year‑old ICU nurse killed by a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis during a federal immigration enforcement operation.

The incident has sparked widespread protests and bipartisan outrage, with lawmakers including Republican Senators Bill Cassidy, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and Pete Ricketts urging that an independent review be conducted to rebuild trust and determine exactly what happened in the chaotic encounter.

Other senators, both Republican and Democratic, have similarly called for joint federal and state inquiries, emphasizing that the credibility of ICE and the Department of Homeland Security is at stake and highlighting the need for accountability and oversight.

The shooting has already triggered legal action in Minnesota, where a federal judge issued a restraining order to prevent federal authorities from destroying or altering evidence from the scene, as state and local officials press for access to critical materials.

Authorities are also grappling with political fallout, with some senators threatening to withhold Department of Homeland Security funding unless reforms and investigative measures are adopted, adding pressure to Capitol Hill debates over federal immigration policy and law enforcement practices.
