Tuesday, January 20, 2026- A deadly shooting at the historic Dooky Chase’s Restaurant in New Orleans left one young man dead and three innocent bystanders wounded Friday night, police confirmed. The incident unfolded shortly after 8 p.m. in the Tremé neighborhood when officers responded to reports of gunfire near the restaurant.
New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said the victim, identified as 19‑year‑old Kareem Harris of New Orleans, was being pursued and shot at before he ran into the restaurant’s foyer, where the gunman followed and continued firing. The suspect remains at large as investigators seek public tips.
Three women waiting for tables inside the crowded restaurant were struck by bullets in the chaos. Two of them, friends visiting from Los Angeles, were seriously injured and required surgery; one suffered multiple gunshot wounds and remains hospitalized while the other is now in stable condition.
The third, who was visiting from Florida, sustained graze wounds and was treated and released. Police are investigating whether others were involved in the incident and have increased the reward for information leading to the shooter’s arrest.
Dooky Chase’s, a longtime cultural institution known for its Creole cuisine and community significance, was hosting patrons when the violence erupted. Officials emphasized that the restaurant and its guests were not the intended targets and have urged anyone with video or details of the incident to come forward.
