Wednesday, January 28, 2026 - A West Virginia librarian has been arrested for allegedly trying to recruit people on social media to as$assinate President Trump.
According to a criminal complaint, Morgan L. Morrow, 39, of
Ripley, was seen over a TikTok video saying, “Surely a sn!per with a terminal
illness can’t be a big ask out of 343 million”.
It was taken as advocating for Trump’s assassination and
Morrow was charged Monday, Jan. 26, with one count of threats of terroristic
acts.
The Jackson County Public Library staffer was detained at
her home and allegedly admitted to police that the TikTok was “intended as a
threat directed toward President Donald J. Trump.”
Morrow revealed her “personal reasons for wishing harm upon
the president,” according to the complaint, which did not elaborate on what
they were.
Morrow claimed she had no intention to personally carry out
the threat, the complaint said.
But deputies said such statements are “designed to
encourage, inspire or entice others to carry out the threatened act, regardless
of whether the speaker publicly intends to personally do so.”
“When you saddle up on the horse of stupidity, you have to
be prepared for the ride that follows,” Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger
told WOWK.
“We’re just trying to do our part in making sure that it’s
not acted upon, and there’s no one that’s following her footsteps to try to
carry out the plan.”
Mellinger said such threats cannot be tolerated regardless
of political affiliation.
“It’s okay to be critical of the government. It’s okay to be
critical of things you don’t agree with,” Mellinger said, “but when you start
promoting the violence and you’re promoting a plan to carry out the violence
and recruiting other people to carry out the plan for you, that’s clearly
crossing the line.”
Jackson County Public Library said in a
statement that it was addressing the librarian’s behavior
internally.
“The comments recently made by an employee do not reflect
the mission, values, or standards of conduct of our organization,” officials
wrote.
