Tuesday, January 20, 2026- In Minneapolis, hundreds of counterprotesters overwhelmed a small pro-ICE rally led by far-right activist Jake Lang, forcing the group to abandon its demonstration near City Hall.
The rally, intended to promote aggressive immigration enforcement, was quickly drowned out by chants and confrontation as counterprotesters surrounded the group. Law enforcement, including local police and armored vehicles, arrived as tensions escalated in cold conditions.
Lang, a controversial figure previously pardoned for his role in the January 6 Capitol attack and now positioning himself as a political candidate, had promoted the rally with rhetoric widely criticized as anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim.
Only a small number of supporters appeared, and several were chased away by the much larger counterprotest crowd. At least one individual was confronted over offensive clothing, and Lang was seen leaving the area with visible bruises and scrapes.
The confrontation unfolded amid heightened unrest in the Twin Cities tied to federal immigration operations and expanded enforcement activity. Protests have become a daily occurrence, prompting the state to prepare National Guard support for local law enforcement if needed.
