ZELENSKYY turns to Europe after talks with U.S. officials
Wednesday, December 3, 2025 -After recent negotiations in the United States, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is reaching out to European leaders in an effort to broaden support and ensure a coordinated approach to peace talks.
Ukrainian officials reportedly finalized a draft of a proposed peace framework in talks with U.S. representatives — but Zelenskyy is pressing for deeper European involvement before any agreement is accepted, arguing that decisions over Ukraine’s future should not be shaped by Washington alone.
In Paris, Zelenskyy met with Emmanuel Macron and other European officials to underscore Ukraine’s red lines: security guarantees, sovereignty, and an unyielding stance on territorial integrity.
He warned that any deal must not reward aggression by legitimizing Russia’s occupation of Ukrainian land. With several European countries — including France, Germany, Italy, Poland and others — now involved in discussions, Zelenskyy is pushing for a united front to shape the outcome of peace efforts.
At stake is more than just a ceasefire: Zelenskyy is betting that united trans-Atlantic backing will strengthen Ukraine’s negotiating position and deliver lasting security guarantees.
He has signaled willingness to meet again with U.S. envoys — but only if the dialogue respects Ukraine’s sovereignty and includes Europe meaningfully, reflecting a broader push to secure Ukraine’s future with European backing, not just U.S. proposals.
