Vote count under way in Honduras to elect new president in a close race after TRUMP’s intervention

-Poll workers began tallying votes Sunday evening in the presidential election in Honduras — a vote that is now drawing global attention after Donald Trump publicly intervened just days earlier by endorsing one of the contenders and announcing that he would pardon a former Honduran president.

With ballots counting from roughly one-third of polling stations, early results placed two conservative candidates — Nasry "Tito" Asfura and Salvador Nasralla — ahead, while the candidate from the governing party, Rixi Moncada, lagged far behind. Voting was extended by an hour in many locations to accommodate remaining voters, and authorities initially reported no major problems at polling stations.

As Honduras awaits final tabulations — a process that could take weeks — the election underscores deep political tensions: U.S. interference, a hotly contested presidential race, and mounting public scrutiny of electoral integrity. With stakes high, the outcome could significantly shape the country’s political and economic direction for years to come.
