U.S. and Ukrainian officials meet in Miami before Moscow talks

-U.S. and Ukrainian officials met in Miami on Sunday for high-stakes negotiations ahead of upcoming talks between U.S. envoys and Russia.

The purpose was to coordinate positions on a revised U.S. peace proposal and address key outstanding issues — particularly territorial boundaries and security guarantees for Ukraine. The session lasted around four to five hours and was described by both sides as “constructive but unresolved.”

The Ukrainian delegation was led by their national security adviser and included senior military and diplomatic figures. The U.S. side comprised top officials, including the U.S. Secretary of State, the U.S. envoy, and a senior political adviser.

They debated possible territorial exchanges, election timelines, and other conditions tied to ending the war, but acknowledged significant gaps remain.

After the meeting, U.S. officials characterized the talks as “productive” while stressing there is “more work to be done.” Ukrainian leaders expressed appreciation for U.S. support, but warned that any peace deal must respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and security. The agreement — and whether Moscow will accept the terms — remains uncertain as attention now shifts to the forthcoming Russia meeting.
