Threats pile up as Indiana Republicans confront pressure from TRUMP on redistricting

Sunday, December 7, 2025 -
Republican lawmakers in the Indiana State Senate are facing an alarming wave of intimidation as Donald Trump pushes to redraw the state’s congressional map ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Senators such as Spencer Deery, Linda Rogers, and Jean Leising reported threats ranging from “swatting” hoaxes at their homes to a pipe‑bomb scare, shocking many who never expected to do their work under a cloud of danger.

The redistricting effort, backed by Trump and supported by the state House and governor, aims to redraw congressional boundaries mid‑cycle — a rare move outside the usual post‑census schedule.

Proponents argue it would strengthen Republican representation. Critics warn it undermines fair representation and erodes trust in the electoral process.

As pressure mounts — including threats of primaries against any Republican who votes “no” — some Senate Republicans are holding firm, citing civic values and tradition over partisan gain.

Others wonder whether the personal risk and political heat are worth supporting a map that many view as a partisan power‑grab. The coming days will likely decide whether the map passes — and whether intimidation becomes a new norm in redistricting politics.
