Respiratory virus intensifies as Texas hospitalizations climb

Monday, December 29, 2025 -Texas is seeing a sharp rise in respiratory virus cases, with hospitals reporting a surge in patient admissions over the past week.

Emergency departments are experiencing higher-than-usual volumes, and local health officials are urging residents to take precautions to limit spread. Clinics are reporting long wait times, and some hospitals have had to adjust staffing to handle the increasing load.

Health authorities warn that the virus is highly contagious, particularly among children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions. Masking in crowded indoor spaces, frequent handwashing, and staying home when sick are being strongly recommended to slow transmission.

Officials also emphasize the importance of keeping vaccinations up to date, especially for flu and COVID-19, which can worsen symptoms if contracted alongside this virus.

The current situation highlights an urgent need for community awareness and preparation. With hospital resources under pressure, residents are encouraged to monitor symptoms early and seek medical attention promptly if they experience breathing difficulties, persistent fever, or worsening cough.

Public health experts stress that acting now can prevent the system from becoming overwhelmed and protect the most vulnerable Texans.
