Preservationists sue TRUMP for ballroom project reviews and congressional approval

Sunday, December 14, 2025 -
Preservation groups have filed a new federal lawsuit against President Donald Trump, challenging plans for a proposed ballroom project they argue bypasses required environmental reviews and congressional approval.

The suit claims the project, planned on federally protected or historically significant land, violates preservation laws designed to safeguard public assets and ensure transparent oversight before construction moves forward.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiffs allege that federal agencies failed to conduct proper impact assessments and moved ahead without securing explicit authorization from Congress, a step preservationists say is legally mandatory for developments of this scale.

The case emphasizes concerns about precedent, warning that allowing the project to proceed could weaken long-standing protections for historic sites nationwide.

The legal action adds to growing scrutiny over how high-profile developments intersect with federal authority and conservation rules.

Supporters of the project argue it would generate economic activity and tourism growth, while critics say rule-of-law compliance is non-negotiable. The court’s response could shape future standards for development approvals involving historic or federally controlled land.
