IDF kills top Hamas commander RAAD SAAD, a key planner of Oct. 7, in Gaza City strike

Monday, December 15, 2025 -
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the killing of Raad Saad, a senior Hamas commander and a key planner of the deadly October 7 attacks, in a precision strike in Gaza City.

Israeli officials described Saad as a central figure in orchestrating attacks against civilians and military targets, emphasizing that his elimination is a significant blow to Hamas’ operational leadership. The strike reflects Israel’s ongoing campaign to target high-ranking militant leaders amid continued escalation along the Gaza border.

Hamas confirmed the death of Saad, warning of potential retaliatory attacks and vowing to continue its operations against Israel. The development is expected to heighten tensions in the region, with international observers urging restraint and warning of the risk of further violence.

Civilians in Gaza have already experienced disruptions, including power outages and restricted movement, as Israeli military operations continue in response to militant activity.

The killing underscores Israel’s strategy of targeting the leadership of militant groups to weaken operational capabilities. Analysts suggest that while the loss of a key commander may disrupt planning temporarily, Hamas’ decentralized structure could allow other leaders to step in.

Meanwhile, both sides remain on high alert, raising concerns about a possible escalation that could impact the broader security situation in Gaza and surrounding areas.
