At least 15 injured in knife and bleach attack at Japan factory

Sunday, December 28, 2025 -At least 15 people were injured in a serious attack at a factory in central Japan, triggering concern over workplace safety. The incident took place at a manufacturing plant in Shizuoka Prefecture, where a man allegedly attacked workers using a knife and a chemical believed to be bleach.

Emergency services responded quickly, and all injured individuals were taken to hospital. Authorities said the victims were conscious, though several sustained serious injuries.

Police detained a 38-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. Investigators said the suspect entered the factory carrying a knife and wearing protective gear, suggesting the attack may have been planned.

Officials are continuing to question the suspect and witnesses as they work to establish the motive and sequence of events. The man is believed to have had some connection to the facility.

The attack has shocked the local community and drawn national attention, particularly given Japan’s reputation for low levels of violent crime. The incident has prompted renewed scrutiny of safety measures at workplaces and industrial sites.

As the investigation continues, authorities have emphasized the need for stronger preventive measures to protect workers and prevent similar incidents in the future.
