‘SCHUMER is no longer effective’: Democrats outraged over shutdown deal

Tuesday, November 11, 2025 -Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is facing fierce criticism from fellow Democrats after the latest government shutdown deal, which has left key party priorities unmet.

Lawmakers expressed frustration that the agreement failed to address health care expansions, climate initiatives, and other pressing domestic issues, leaving Democrats with little to show after weeks of negotiations. Many see the deal as a capitulation that prioritizes political compromise over progressive policy goals.

The deal, aimed at preventing a prolonged government shutdown, passed amid growing public pressure, but Democratic lawmakers argue it came at too high a cost. Progressive leaders have openly questioned Schumer’s leadership, calling for more assertive strategies to secure legislation that reflects the party’s platform.

Some suggest that his willingness to negotiate with Republicans has weakened the party’s influence on Capitol Hill, especially on issues critical to their voter base.

Public response has mirrored the party’s discontent. Advocates for health care reform and social programs warn that the deal undermines crucial protections for millions of Americans.

The backlash signals growing tension within the Democratic Party, raising questions about whether Schumer can maintain authority and unity in upcoming legislative battles, or if new leadership voices will emerge to push a bolder agenda.
