New Orleans elects exonerated man, CALVIN DUNCAN, as criminal court clerk

Monday, November 17, 2025 -In a historic election, New Orleans voters have chosen Calvin Duncan, a man once wrongfully convicted, as their new Criminal Court Clerk.

Duncan’s victory marks a remarkable comeback and highlights growing public focus on criminal justice reform and accountability in the city’s legal system.

Duncan, who spent years fighting to clear his name, ran on a platform emphasizing transparency, fairness, and modernizing court operations.

His personal experience with the justice system has become a central part of his message, appealing to voters seeking a more empathetic and reform-minded approach to criminal court administration.

The election outcome has drawn national attention, with advocates calling it a sign that communities are increasingly willing to entrust key legal roles to those who have firsthand experience of the system’s flaws.

Observers say Duncan’s tenure could influence broader reforms in Louisiana’s criminal justice framework and inspire similar movements nationwide.
